The Phuket Yacht Club Sailing School at the Phuket Yacht Club was established with the intention of not only teaching people to sail, but also to instill teamwork, respect for nature, healthy competition and self-confidence. It is a non-profit entity.
Instruction is available for both kids and adults with a focus on youngsters due to the size of boats - dinghies - available. Young children are enrolled in the Play Sail group to allow them to get comfortable on a dinghy. From the age of 7 and up, kids complete stages 1 to 4, undergoing the training to sail competently. 'Fun training' such as playing games and racing in a safe environment before moving on to the next stage, is held between lessons to practice and internalise skills.
Race training is also available for those who wish to advance their skills and compete.
Instruction is carried out by qualified instructors who have a range of experiences to assist students needs.
There are Open BIC sailing dinghies, which are light, fast, manoeuvrable and fun to sail boats, available as well as several Mirror dinghies, Bytes and Optimists. All the school's training dinghies are donated by various local companies. The cost of participation covers teacher costs and dinghy maintenance.
PYC is an approved RYA training centre and offers training in sailing and power-boating fields.
PYC, located adjacent to the water, also has a restaurant. Enjoy great food, atmosphere and the social experience as swell as the sailing.
